Rare Antique Victorian Aesop's Fable Fox and the Grapes Pinchbeck Amethyst Fob

This auction features a very hard to find antique Victorian Pinchbeck and Amethyst fob or pendant.  This was originally on a pocket watch chain that was in such poor condition I took it off so I am calling this a fob but it certainly could be worn as a pendant.  There are two foxes and a cluster of grapes and leaves which represents the Aesop's Fable

I believe that the metal is Pinchbeck with a deep purple faceted stone which looks like Amethyst to me but I did not take this to my jeweler to confirm.  It measures 1 3/8" tall by 1 1/2" wide.  I think this is in very good used condition.  Looks the same on both sides.  Only minor wear to the metal.  A little bit of roughness on the edges of some the facets which you will need a magnifier to see.  The photographs were taken in natural light and under a lamp so you can see how gorgeous this it.  This is a very early piece.  Comes in a new gift box and it is ready to wear!

The narration is concise and subsequent retellings have often been equally so. The story concerns a fox
that tries to eat grapes
from a vine but cannot reach them. Rather than admit defeat, he states they are undesirable. The expression "sour grapes" originated from this fable
